West Lake Hills is an upscale suburb of Austin located on the southwest side of the Colorado River. It is unique in many ways. The local residents are dedicated to preserving the rural environment and maintaining the natural beauty of the area. Many of the homes have views of downtown Austin, Lake Austin, or the Hill country. It is known for its wide variety of fine homes and waterfront properties. West Lake Hills is located in the Eanes Independent School District.
What I Like About West Lake Hills
It is very near to downtown Austin, but it feels like it is in the country. The Eanes Independent School District is one of the best in Austin. Driving through the Westlake area, you never quite know what to expect. You might find a small little cottage in the woods, or a magnificant mansion peeking out from the trees. Some of the most expensive real estate in Austin is located in these hills.

What is There to Do in West Lake Hills?
My favorite mall in Austin is Barton Creek Mall at the intersection of Highway 360 and MoPac Blvd. There are also other areas of little shops that are fun to amble through. There is a consignment furniture store on Westbank Drive that always has some great finds. Breed Hardware Store on Bee Caves Road has everything from hammers and nails to Herend China. Lake Austin runs along West Lake Hills, so there are plenty of places to put your boat in the water. The water is cold since it comes out of the bottom of Mansfield Dam. West Lake Hills is very hilly.&; The homes here have great views of hills and valleys, and some have spectacular views of downtown Austin and Lake Austin.
Where is West Lake Hills?
It is just across the river from downtown Austin.&; You can reach it by driving south on MoPac and exiting on Rollingwood Drive, traveling Lake Austin Boulevard and driving across the low water crossing, or from Highway 360 and Westlake Drive. &;
