Georgetown is a short drive north of Austin on IH 35. Downtown Georgetown is built in a square with the Courthouse in the center. There are antique shops, restaurants, book stores and other fun shops around the square. IH 35 is built along the Balcones Escarpment and divides the city. The east side of IH 35 is flat and the soil is good for farming. Cotton is one of the main crops. Downtown Georgetown is located on the east side, as well as Southwestern University, the oldest University in Texas. Many of the homes are in the National Registry of Historic Places. You feel like you are traveling back in time while driving through the tree lined streets with beautiful large Victorian homes.
