The homes in Balcones woods were built in the 60’s and 70’s. Many of the homes are one story, but there are also two story homes mingled in. This subdivision is a little north of 360 and east of Highway 183. NPC was one of Austin’s most prolific builders during the 60’s and 70’s and many of these homes were built by them. There is a quarry lake in the neighborhood and some of the homes overlook the lake and park. Hyde Park Baptist Church owns the park and has built a high school, baseball and football fields and a gym. There are picnic areas and little rowboats for the lake.
What I like about Balcones Woods
Balcones Woods residents are very well connected. They have several interest groups, such as a wine tasting group, bridge club, book club, dinner club, clubs that involve the kids and a newsletter to keep everyone informed. They also have a park with tennis courts and swimming pool. They usually have a formidable swim team each summer. I also like the fact that Balcones Woods has rules that protects the beauty of the neighborhood. This neighborhood is near MoPac, 183 and highway 360 for easy access to most parts of Austin.
