Great Hills subdivision is located in the Arboretum area of northwest Austin. Many of the homes located in this Country Club neighborhood have panoramic views of the hills and valleys. This neighborhood is one of the most desirable places to live in Austin. It is within easy access to highway 183, MoPac and Loop 360. It is convenient to several shopping centers, including the new Domain Shopping mall. It is served by the City of Austin and is near medical facilities and major employers.
Great Hills Country Club and Golf Course
Great Hills Country Club is a private member owned club. You do not have to live in the Great Hills subdivision to become a member. It has a beautiful 18 hole golf course as well as a very active tennis program. There is also a very good swim team for the youngsters in the summer.
What I Like About Great Hills
Many of the homes in this neighborhood do not back up to a wooden fence. Most have a view of a greenbelt, or the golf course. I also like that it is convenient to major highways to easily get to all parts of Austin. The large neighborhood park has a hiking trail in the middle of the woods with all sorts of exciting discoveries for the kids. It even has a waterfall. Boy Scouts and neighborhood volunteers keep the trails in great shape.
To Do Around Great Hills
Some of the great shops include Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Williams and Sonoma, Saks Fifth Avenue, REI. And then there’s the Domain shops and restaurants. Some good restaurants in the Arboretum are ZTejas, Trulucks, Roaring Fork, Eddie V’s, Manuels, and PF Chang’s. If you don’t want to shop or eat, there are some hiking trails in Great Hills. One of my favorites is entered by way of Floral Park Drive. There are miles of trails and lots of flora and fauna to see. You can imagine you are miles away from civilization on these trails. Take your dog and go for a hike.
