Round Rock is located on the east and west sides of IH 35 north of Austin. The town got its name from a large round rock that sits in the middle of Brushy Creek in what is now known as ‘old town.’ Round Rock was originally named Brushy, but since there was already a town in Texas by that name, the post office was asked to select another name. Round Rock was once a sleepy little bedroom community adjacent to Austin, but since Dell computers located here, it has grown into its own little metropolis. Several subdivisions have sprung up and many businesses are now calling Round Rock home. It is located in Williamson County and residents are very proud of their school system. Many of Round Rock schools are rated exemplary.
